There are two species of the rabbit-sized hyrax in the Serengeti - the gray bush hyrax and the larger rock hyrax which has brown fur. They live in the holes of kopjes and on the leaves of umbrella acacias. Moist, rubbery feet enable them to climb steep surfaces. The hyrax deposits droppings in the same spot where large quantities accumulate. They are preyed upon by eagles, jackals, and leopards.
